Physical Examination
The gradual onset of health problems in an apparently healthy pet makes a thorough physical exam one of the most important services we offer. Early identification of subtle changes can make disease identification and treatment more successful. Changes in coat, weight gain or loss, or coughing may suggest underlying issue that may need treatment.

A complete physical exam should be done once yearly to insure your pet’s health. Older pets or pets on medications need bi-annual exams. If you are ever concerned about your pet’s health, trust your instinct and schedule a physical exam.

Preventive Health Care
Prevention is the best way to keep your pet healthy and happy. Our protocol for scheduled visits, vaccinations, and tests can help identify potential problems before they progress. We are equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. Excellent research has allowed us to prevent many diseases through vaccinations, and Dr. Martin is happy to discuss your pet's lifestyle and decide on the most appropriate vaccines and how often to do them.

  • We recommend checking your pet yearly for intestinal parasites.  Some of these parasites can be transmitted to people, it is important to make sure your pet is parasite free.
  • Leptospirosis is a serious bacterial disease that infects dogs, people, and several other types of animals. The bacteria attack the kidney, liver, and nervous system. Recovered animals may shed the organism in their urine for up to 1 year. Rodents, wild animals, and contaminated water are common sources of Leptospirosis.
  • All dogs must have an annual heartworm test in order to receive to preventive heartworm medication.
  • FeLV and FIV are both caused by retroviruses that are similar to, but not the same as, the virus that causes human AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).  Both viruses depress the immune system opening the door to secondary infections and diseases.
  • The most common contagious infection is upper-respiratory.
  • The most common non contagious disease is cancer.
  • An individual cat can contract both FeLV and FIV. There is no cure for either FeLV or FIV. All felines that may be exposed to the outdoors and or unvaccinated felines should be tested annually.
